GOES Distance Learning Schedule

Distance Learning

Grand Oaks Elementary School

Good Evening Grand Oaks Families,

We are nearing the end of our face-to-face instruction and will be starting distance learning this Monday, August 24.  Students on Independent Study will need to turn in their work on Monday, August 24, pick up new materials, and be ready to join their classmates virtually for distance learning.

It is important to note that the distance learning we are about to engage in is different from what most schools went through in April, May, and June.  Senate Bill 98 dictates protocols we must adhere to while instructing students in distance learning.  Students are required to check-in online EVERY DAY and COMPLETE work to get credit for attendance.

All Kindergarten through 5th-grade students will be on the same schedule.  It will require them to log-in to their teacher’s Google Meet by 8:30 am, but may check-in as early as 8:00 am to allow for a virtual recess.  They will be with their teacher and class until 11:30 am where they will then break for lunch until 12:00 pm.  Students will then work on their independent work from 12:00 to 1:00, with the teacher being available for questions through their Google Meet.

Online Instruction (with the teacher)

Independent Work (with teacher support)

Students will need to log-in to their Chromebooks with their email address and enter their password, which is their lunch number.  Or, some students have clever badges.  Students have been training all week to be ready to do this.

Breakfast and Lunch will be served at our campus each day for purchase or free under the Free and Reduced Lunch program.  Please send in your application if you haven’t done so already.  Breakfast will be served from 7:15-8:00 am and lunch will be served from 11:30-12:00. Please notify the office at 275-7040 if you intend on picking up meals so we can prepare to meet the demand.  Also, breakfasts and lunches are free during distance learning.

We understand that you have experienced frustration from the distance learning you may have experienced in the Spring while the whole world was trying to figure out how to educate students from their homes.  We’ve got solid plans in place and will all be available at school to help.  I cannot stress this enough.  If you start to feel frustrated or need help, please don’t hesitate to reach out.  You can always call us here at school, or email your teacher directly.  We, at Grand Oaks School, will all be here.  We understand the possible hurdles.  We are all ready to help.
